“Being The Church in Our World ~ Ephesians”
In January, we will began our new series in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, “Being the Church in Our World.”
Who are we? What are we? If we have been born into the family of God, we are part of the Body of Christ, the church. But a body isn’t the end in itself, a body must… function. And where do we function? In the world where God has placed us. Thus the theme, “Being the Church in Our World.”
Paul, from his Roman imprisonment, wrote to the church in the Asian (present day Turkey) city of Ephesus. He knew this church so well since he ministered in that city for three years. This letter wasn’t just for that particular church, but was to be circulated among the other churches in that region.
In chapters 1-3, Paul lays out his doctrine of the church, through which the gospel will permeate to all the world, to the glory of God. He writes on the purpose of God as it centered on His gift of salvation. Now we know that the church is not the building, it is you and me. In the last half of this letter, Paul is very practical in how we are to function as the church, being the church in our world. That is God’s call on each one of us.
We are the church so well described in Ephesians 2:19-22.
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
I trust this series will be impacting as we again, see who we are and how we are to function in our world, for the sake of the gospel.

“Prayer ~ Drawing Closer to God”
At our Elders Retreat in September of 2016, one of our three areas of concentration was on prayer; how can we, as a church, deepen our prayer life? In the new year our sub-group continued to work on this area. This has lead us to our new preaching series entitled “Prayer ~ Drawing Closer to God.” Our desire is that God will use this series to help do just that, draw closer to Him as we deepen our prayer life.
In this series we will look at: “The Lord’s Instruction on Prayer,” “The Lord’s Prayer,” “The Prayers of Christmas,” “The Apostles’ Prayers and Instructions,” “Old Testament Prayers,” and “Prayer ~ It’s All About Our Relationship with God” as seen in Jonah and Habakkuk.
Throughout this series we will see what is taking place at The Chapel in terms of prayer, from small groups to our Sunday Morning Prayer Team. We will be sharing ways that we can deepen our walk with God through prayer, even “eavesdrop” on various venues of prayer. Occasionally, we will be looking for your feedback through the E-press as well.
